Bible translation has hit a new low. I never saw this one coming nor could I ever have imagined this but there is a Bible translation out there for your cat from lolcatbible.com. Here's the creation story according to cats...

That's about all I can stomach.
Their goal is to translate the entire Bible and they have many contributors. Here is what one contributor had to say..
"I was raised Christian," she said. "The lolcat Bible, to me, is especially funny. For people who weren't raised knowing passages from Sunday school, I don't know if they would find it as funny as I do . . . but as a cat lover, I find it hysterical."I too am a cat lover but I love God and His precious Word even more! I can't see how any true Christian would find this funny. They have altered the Word of God to fit their fancy. They have made a joke of this God-breathed Book! I like to think I have a good sense of humor and I'm sure they meant this to be humorous but this is crossing the line. You just don't make a mockery of God's Word! They truly do not know what they do.

I cant believe this!!! what is happening? Oh my God!!! how low can we humans go before God destroys this earth?
anyway thanks for letting us know about it
Godbless
As the site administrator I felt it prudent to respond. It would be too long to show here so I leave you with a link to it:
My response to the "mockery" allegations.
Hope it clarifies my personal stance on the matter. Thank you.
I read your article and you didn't just "change a few sentences here and there." You have altered the Bible to such a degree that it is unrecognizable. In fact the only commonality between your cat bible and the true Living Word of God is the names of the Books. (ie. Genesis, Exodus)
I didn't provide any reason for why I think the way I do because my readers (who are Christians) already understand why. But since you do not, I'll give you one...
Rev 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
I don't know why you care anyway because you are a professed atheist. You don't even believe in God but you were upset at what I said. And really, I don't care what you do; you have the right to say whatever you wish but remember, so do I. I was just shocked because I had never seen the Bible manipulated and violated to such a degree. But I cannot expect any reverence or respect from an atheist because 'you know not what you do.'
Let's turn the tables for a minute....how would you feel if I ripped apart, or made a mockery of someone or something you loved for the sake of fun and entertainment? Would you get offended? You don't have to answer if you don't want, just think about it.
Good day.
I'm not entirely sure you've read the blogpost thoroughly at all. My main point was the accusations of mockery, simply because you personally find it distasteful, is baseless.
I wouldn't call my current state of mind upset. I'm not upset that you feel a need to defend your god as such. If anything, I'm amused, because you are taking something decidedly not serious and are driving it to the root of your heart as something ghastly.
As far as if you mocked a friend. For one, if my friend were mean spirited, bigoted, vindictive, jealous, and a mass murderer, I am pretty sure I would at least understand that they maybe deserve it. Or at least not everyone would see their wicked ways as "okay."
However, I've made a note that the site isn't a mockery simply because you say. A mockery is usually done with an intent to mock. That is not what the site is to a vast majority of its users.
As my friend said, who is quite a devout Christian, "Maybe they'll read this and think about it. They'll read the real Bible and go, 'Hmmmm...'"
I don't share his sentiment on that front but he does raise a point.
Also, that Bible verse you quote is about Revelations alone. While Revelations was altered, I highly doubt it is about the entire Bible you hold in your hand as that "book" didn't exist until way after Revelations was written.
I'll be happy to report that despite altering the Book of Revelations (rather, the users of the site), none of the plagues have been visited upon any of us.
Thanks!
Its not funny - nothing wrong with your sense of humour, Carol. I'm sick of having to tread on tenterhooks where other faiths are concerned (e.g. the bear named Mohammed incident) and have our own beliefs trampled on.
BTW keep up the good work. Your posts are not a comfortable read. God bless.
To mock is to imitate,or to counterfeit. And your site imitates the Bible - it is a counterfeit. You have imitated the Books of the Bible in that they are listed from Genesis to Revelation and even kept the word 'bible' in it. Your bible is also taken FROM the original Bible using it's format and loosely basing your stories from it so yes Martin, it absolutely is mockery.
The word "mockery" is appropriate - I suggest you look it up in your dictionary. So while I do find it tasteless, calling it 'mockery' is not based on being tasteless nor is it based on my feelings or opinions. It is a stated fact according to the dictionary and the English language.
You said"As far as if you mocked a friend. For one, if my friend were mean spirited, bigoted, vindictive, jealous, and a mass murderer, I am pretty sure I would at least understand that they maybe deserve it. Or at least not everyone would see their wicked ways as "okay."
You were expanding on the comparison I made between God (for me) and someone you loved being mocked. You imply that if God (or a friend) was mean spirited, vindictive, a mass murderer etc. then the mockery would be warranted and deserved. But I'm confused because that statement means that you BELIEVE there is a God - yet you're an atheist which means you believe there is no God. Please clarify for me because I don't know where you're coming from.
You said "As my friend said, who is quite a devout Christian, "Maybe they'll read this and think about it. They'll read the real Bible and go, 'Hmmmm...'"
This is cryptic at best. I've read the Bible many times but when I read YOUR catbible, I compared it to what I know to be the real thing and go "blasphemy!" And before you get on me about 'blasphemy', I'll give you the definition to stop this before it starts...
Blasphemy (noun) Impious utterance or action concerning God or sacred things. Irreverent behavior toward anything held sacred, priceless, etc.
Synonyms: profanity, cursing, swearing, sacrilege, impiety.
Once again, not my opinion but fact according to the dictionary and English language.
You said,"While Revelations was altered, I highly doubt it is about the entire Bible you hold in your hand as that "book" didn't exist until way after Revelations was written.
Just like the individual books themselves were Holy Spirit inspired, I also believe the canonization of those books were inspired. So it doesn't matter when they were written prior to the canon. So yes, Revelation is speaking of the entire book that is the Bible.
You said, "I'll be happy to report that despite altering the Book of Revelations (rather, the users of the site), none of the plagues have been visited upon any of us.
And I hope you don't see those plagues. I really do. But the Bible is clear, if you do not receive Jesus as your Savior and are given new life, then you make that choice yourself to that of judgment eternally.
From what I can tell, you've got some misconceptions and misunderstandings about God. (I did too before I was saved) Have you looked into these things yourself? If not, do you want to? I'd be happy to help.
You say, 'The word "mockery" is appropriate - I suggest you look it up in your dictionary. So while I do find it tasteless, calling it 'mockery' is not based on being tasteless nor is it based on my feelings or opinions. It is a stated fact according to the dictionary and the English language.'
I did look it up and I found this, " showing your contempt by derision." This is the first definition. With this definition the site is not a mockery, as nobody is showing contempt for the Bible.
You say, 'You imply that if God (or a friend) was mean spirited, vindictive, a mass murderer etc. then the mockery would be warranted and deserved. But I'm confused because that statement means that you BELIEVE there is a God - yet you're an atheist which means you believe there is no God. This is a terrible attempt at logic I'm afraid to say. You are implying in order to say these things about your god that I must believe in it. Let us turn to another fictional character, Mr. Scrooge. Do I have to believe in Mr. Scrooge in order to find him greedy, terrible, and mean? Not at all. Likewise I can find the concept of God in the Bible to be distasteful and mean. Also, Mr. Scrooge is often mocked in many stories and ads that have occurred since that original story. None of these people actually believe in him.
'Blasphemy (noun) Impious utterance or action concerning God or sacred things. Irreverent behavior toward anything held sacred, priceless, etc.'
This depends if you view the lolcat bible project as irreverent or not. Some people view it akin to the person who wrote the Bible into modern English (he was burned at the stake for this by the Church), and hold it in high esteem. Others, the vast few, like yourself, view it as blasphemous. There is no fact here, only opinion. Opinions are not fact simply because you think the dictionary fits your opinion.
You say, 'So yes, Revelation is speaking of the entire book that is the Bible.'
You say this as an opinion. This is a baseless claim. Literally reading the Book of Revelations I would easily see "the plagues in this book" to mean plagues in the Book of Revelation. It is a stretch to extend that to the entire Bible of which the author wasn't aware of.
You say, 'From what I can tell, you've got some misconceptions and misunderstandings about God. (I did too before I was saved) Have you looked into these things yourself? If not, do you want to? I'd be happy to help.'
I'm surprised at the thinly veiled derision! Sorry, I was a Christian for seven years, and it is my view it is you who has the misconceptions and misunderstandings. This is, I'm afraid, going to be an impasse with no agreement.
There's no use continuing this argument so I'm going to stop now. But I wanted to say that I was sincere when I offered to help Martin look into this.
Blessings,
Carol
Maybe a crash-course in ebonics would help???
