Instant Communication? (Rev 11:3-12)

Revelation 11:3-12

3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. 7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 8And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. 9And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. 10And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. 11And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. 12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

I've heard it said that the death of the two witnesses will be viewed by everyone via satellite or cable. They say that since we have advanced technologically, that it makes sense that this will be the medium in which to view these two witnesses. But I see this a little differently.

It seems that everything in that paragraph is of a supernatural occurrence but when we get to the nations etc. seeing them, we take the power of the Divine and replace it with man's technology (which operates in this earthly realm). I'll break it down...

fire proceedeth out of their mouth - Supernatural occurrence

power to shut heaven - Supernatural occurrence

that it rain not - Supernatural occurrence

have power over waters = Supernatural occurrence

turn them to blood = Supernatural occurrence

smite the earth with all plagues = Supernatural occurrence

people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies = Utilizing man-made technology. God's Divine, supernatural power is absent.

Spirit of life from God entered into them = Supernatural occurrence

great voice from heaven = Supernatural occurrence

they ascended up to heaven in a cloud = Supernatural occurrence

Everything in red is supernatural; power that goes beyond natural forces - evidence of Divine power. But the part about seeing the dead bodies is reduced to a work of man just because we have the technology to do so. It sticks out like a sore thumb - it doesn't seem to belong. But I've run across many people who think this verse is talking about instant communication via man-made technology.

It is my personal opinion that the whole world being able to see this event will be a supernatural event somehow. I think it may be similar to the coming of Christ - when He comes forth in the clouds and all on the earth shall see Him. Do you think we'll all see Christ because we have satellite or cable? I don't think so. That event will surely be supernatural and I think it's the same principle with the two witnesses.

I agree with you that it would be a supernatural occurrence like the coming of our Lord...

Do you think we'll all see Christ because we have satellite or cable?
who would even think that it would be as a result of technological advancements in the world today, what about places that don't even have simple electricity not to mention watching TV or listening to other communication device.
whatever we have today might not even play any significant part on that day cos my take is everything would automatically shutdown... to the awe of the skeptics and scientists.

God is Good

Godbless carol a great post.

Great Post Carol- yeah, man desperately wants to be all powerful- unneeding of a Divine God- hence the whole Macroevolution hypothesis. I fully believe, like you, that the events of the end times will be fully supernaturaL. Christ will be seen by everyone and understood by everyone- this means everyone- even those without televisions will see Him and understand His message and warnings. Christ will be present everywhere at once, and the events you highlight will be supernatural as well. I find it a little odd that some peopel think that the all powerful God will need man's help to get His message across in the end.

Again, great post. CottShop
